This page explains, in plain language, what WasteWiseMA uses and what it does not use. It is meant to help visitors understand the site while using the map, forms, and survey links.

1. Exact Distance and Location

Exact Distance is optional. If you choose to turn it on, your browser shares your current location with the site so it can estimate how far each recycling or donation location is from you.

WasteWiseMA does not store your browser location in its database and does not use it to create an account or user profile. If you clear the feature or leave the page, that location is not kept by the site.

2. Contact, Report, and Suggest Forms

When you use the contact, report outdated info, or suggest a location forms, we store the information you submit so the WasteWiseMA team can review it and follow up if needed.

That may include your name, email address, and the message or location details you choose to send us.

Form submissions are also sent to the WasteWiseMA team by email using Resend. If you include an email address, we may use it only to respond to your message, report, or suggestion.

3. Community Reviews

If you leave a community review for a location, the star rating, selected helpful tags, optional comment, and submission time may be displayed publicly on that location's detail panel. Reviews do not ask for your name.

4. reCAPTCHA and Spam Protection

WasteWiseMA uses Google reCAPTCHA on public forms and review submissions to help prevent automated spam. Google may receive technical information needed to provide that protection, such as browser and interaction signals, under Google's own privacy practices.

5. External Services

Some actions on the site send you to third-party services. For example, the Get Directions button opens Google Maps, Mapbox provides the map display, Resend handles form email delivery, Google reCAPTCHA helps protect forms, and the Survey link opens an external survey page. Once you leave WasteWiseMA or interact with those services, those services follow their own privacy practices.
